Description
Design Overview:
- Left Panel – St. Benedict:
- The image depicts St. Benedict of Nursia, the founder of Western monasticism. He holds a cross in one hand (symbolizing salvation through Christ) and the Rule of Benedict in the other, representing the guide to a life of humility, prayer, and service.
- Below St. Benedict are two symbols of his miracles:
- The Cup: Refers to the poisoned drink he survived by making the sign of the cross.
- The Raven: Represents the bird that carried away poisoned bread intended to harm him.
- The Latin inscription, “Ejus in obitu nostro praesentia muniamur,” translates to “May we be strengthened by his presence at the hour of our death,” invoking his intercession.
